Thank you

The fourth annual “Jump Right In and Run” was held this past Labor Day weekend and will hold fond memories for a long time for many who participated. A total of 266 participants gathered at the start line and took on the challenge of completing the road race.

It was a beautiful day in Storm Lake and the community can be so proud of how our city sparkled. Some of the comments we heard from out-of-town runners were: “I choose this race because it looked so beautiful in Storm Lake;” “The course was the best I have ever run;” “It is so beautiful here;” “All the details on the course will always be so memorable for me;” “People are so friendly here;” and our favorite, “I’m coming back next year!”

We would like to thank the City of Storm Lake for granting permission to host the event. Chief Mark Prosser and his public safety department for working with us in creating a beautiful, yet safe course for our runners. Tom Meier and his parks department crew for their assistance and for making our park system well groomed and inviting. Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and Buena Vista University Athletic Trainers for providing medical attention to the runners on the course. The staff at King’s Pointe Waterpark Resort for hosting the packet pick up event Saturday night and Sunday morning.

A road race event comes with some expense and we could not have done it without the financial assistance from the following businesses and organizations. Our Gold Medal Sponsor: Storm Lake United (chamber/tourism/area development). Silver Medal Sponsors: Trimark Physician Group, King’s Pointe, Buena Vista University and Dr. Troy Ivey. Bronze Medal Sponsors: Silk Screen Ink, Hamilton Law Firm, Taco John’s, Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, Grand Central Coffee Station, Citizens Bank and NW IA Bone, Joint & Sports Surgeons. Aid/Water Station Sponsors: Fitzpatrick Auto Center, Hy Vee, Anytime Fitness, State Farm Insurance, Brown’s Shoe Fit Co., Wieber Fitness, Sichanh Inc./Asian Food Market and Security Trust and Savings Bank. Mile Marker Sponsors: Wal-Mart, Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Homes, Fareway, Real Estate Specialists - Agent Marv Munden, Kuehl & Payer LTD, Buena Vista University Athletic Training, Nicholson Physical Therapy, Julius Cleaners, Stille Pierce and Pertzborn, KBVU 97.5 the EDGE, Jack Links, Hoffman’s Floral and Candle Shop, and China House. Media Sponsors: The Storm Lake Times, Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune, and KAYL/KKIA.

There are so many individuals we need to thank for making this event a huge success. A BIG thanks to all who cheered, passed out freeze pops, and assorted beverages as the runners passed their homes on the course.

A huge thank you to over 50 volunteers who helped direct the runners, hand out water, provide aid, and help at the finish line. The compliment we heard over and over again from runners is true: “Everyone here is so nice!”

Thank you to our committee members: Chris Sitzman, John Brostad, Jan Travis, Hannah Campbell, Karen Keenan, Jeff Brennan, Annamaria Formichella-Elsden, Cal Lai, Jenny Wiebers and Dan Richardson. Your efforts and enthusiasm made the project fun and we value your friendship.

On behalf of the entire committee we appreciate everyone’s support in making this event a big success. We look forward to the fifth annual Jump Right In and Run half-marathon event on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 (Labor Day Weekend).

FAQ

Can I walk the 5-K or half-marathon?

Yes! However, we require participants to finish the event in four hours.

Can I run with my dog?

No! We love canines but please don't run the race with your four-legged friend.

Can I use my skateboard or in-line skates or bring along a baby jogger?

No. We want to keep the course as safe as possible for our participants. Please do not use those - or similar - items during the race.

Can I cheer for my favorite runners along the course?

Absolutely! Please encourage your friends and family members with signs and cheers. Take a look at the course map. The course follows the LakeTrail which flows through Storm Lake's beautiful parks and offers plenty of shelters and shade.

How does the half-marathon relay work?

Half-marathon relay teams consist of two runners. The first runner starts the race and runs 6.1 miles at which point the runner's partner continues the course and runs the remaining seven miles. The running partners will exchange bracelets at the 6.1 mile mark. Transportation is provided for the runners to get to and from the exchange points.

Can I use my mp3 player while I run the race?

Yes!
